Industry-Wide Mineworkers Pension Scheme

Scheme information

The Scheme provides retirement and death benefits for coal industry employees transferred to new employment as a consequence of the de-nationalisation of British Coal. It was established on 29 December 1994 under the IndustryWide Mineworkers’ Pension Scheme Regulations 1994, which created the Trust Deed and Rules.

The Trustee of the Scheme is Coal Heritage Pension Trustees Limited (the “Trustee”).  The directors of the Trustee make up the “Committee of Management”, and they are required to manage the Scheme in accordance with its Deed and Rules.  The Articles of Association of the Trustee provide for the appointment of up to eight directors and an independent Chairperson.  In addition to the Chairperson, half of the remaining directors are appointed on behalf of the participating employers of the Scheme, and half are appointed by trade unions.  The powers of the Committee of Management are conferred by the Memorandum and Articles of Association of the Trustee and by the Trust Deed and Rules of the Scheme.
